Return of the Enchanter: Roger Dubuis Summons Merlin Once More

In the glowing half-light between horology and legend, Roger Dubuis returns to the mythic halls of Camelot with the latest chapter in its ongoing homage to the Knights of the Round Table. This time, the Maison’s gaze falls upon Merlin—the enchanter, the architect of Arthur’s destiny—with a timepiece that’s as much a spell as it is a watch.
Introducing: Excalibur Knights of the Round Table – The Enchanter Merlin
Since 2013, Roger Dubuis has been weaving legend into metal and magic into movement. In 2024, the saga turned to Merlin, launching “Merlin the Omniscient,” a piece rooted in the basalt-hewn legends of the Giant’s Causeway. That dramatic chapter built a dial of 56 columns, including real volcanic stone, said to be raised by Merlin himself to form Stonehenge in honor of Arthur’s lineage.
Now, the second chapter delves deeper into the wizard’s myth—his secret love for the Lady of the Lake and the crystal palace he conjured to shelter her.
A Dial Born of Enchantment
At its heart is an illusion—the suggestion of a glistening, invisible palace atop a still, magical lake. This illusion is made manifest through a mosaic of textures and heights: 56 towering pillars crafted in pink gold, Murano-style glass, and rare enamel. Beneath, a bed of ruthenium crystals—a precious metal rarer than platinum—shimmers like a moonlit lake.
Nine hexagonal diamonds, set using a virtually invisible technique, add to the sorcery—each one clipped into hidden grooves for a seamless appearance that dazzles without distraction.
Twelve Knights, Eternal Vigil
Encircling the dial, twelve Arthurian knights stand guard. Not static figurines, but warriors caught mid-motion—each hand-sculpted in 18K pink gold, only 6mm tall, yet engraved with painstaking detail. Their swords are raised, their armor set, their presence unmistakable. These are not markers of time. They are sentinels of myth.
A sapphire window beneath the bezel allows the beholder to admire them from every angle, a gallery of miniature guardians cast in gold and shadow.
Power Beneath the Spell
Driving this horological epic is the in-house RD821 calibre—Geneva Seal certified and built from 172 components. Its 360° rotor, reminiscent of stained glass, spins silently beneath a 45mm pink gold case, crowned with a guard shaped like Excalibur’s hilt. Form meets function. Magic meets movement.
Only for the Chosen
Just 28 of The Enchanter Merlin will be made, retailing at $398,500. Each is bound by the same inscription engraved on every Excalibur Knights of the Round Table since the beginning:
"Around this table, the bravest knights will gather as equals..."
It is a watch, yes—but also a relic, a story, a pact. Those who wear it do not merely own a timepiece. They inherit a legend.
